Genealogy Photo Editing, Care and Repair is a course designed for genealogists who want to learn how to repair or preserve old photos and documents. You'll learn the most common kinds of damage to expect, and how to stop the progression. You'll learn about storage materials, what to use and what can cause further damage. And you'll also learn some easy techniques to repair digital copies of your photos and documents, and make them look like new. Environment is one of the biggest causes of damage, and you'll learn why the basement or attic is the worst choice for storing your fragile paper items. Before we can begin repairing and editing your photos or documents, you will need to digitize them. You'll learn how to use a scanner, camera, smartphone or hand-held scanner for digitizing. Then you'll need some image editing software to repair the damage to your digitized images. We'll review some different software packages, and you'll get links to several. Some are freeware and some paid. You can download the freeware, or demos of the paid versions, and use them for this course. With these tools you'll be ready to start repairing your photos. There are tutorials to show you how to make different corrections and which tools to use. The course includes several images that you can practice on until you learn to use the editing tools and are confident enough work on your own photos. As usual, my courses come with a detailed textbook that contains all of the links I refer to, and other downloads that you can use for the exercises or further study. Sign up above, and I'll see you in class.

Biodynamic composting is regarded by many to be the ultimate method of composting. Starting with conventional farm-sourced materials plus the addition of biodynamic preps and minerals it usually requires turning once. It is then covered and left to ‘do its own thing’ while heat and the fermentation process along with the worms ‘ clean’ up the materials producing a compost rich in a broad spectrum of microbes and plant available minerals. This VIDEO shows how to build compost in static piles, in cowpat pits, and then how to prepare the sprays and to broadcast them by hand. Watch and listen as Hamish starts from scratch and invites participants to build the compost pile with him. Hamish Mackay at the cowpat pit

In this course we will cover the basics of Pachanga technique so as to keep you well equipped with the fundamentals and hence ready to take on more challenging steps later on. It is important to note that Pachanga is usually danced by Mambo dancers or Salsa on 2 dancers but I have explained the steps from the perspective of on1 dancers as it is easy to find videos on Pachanga for on2 dancers. This doesn't affect the dance in any way, it's just that the basic step used is an on1 basic. Consequently, all the steps start with the left foot instead of the right. As a dance, Pachanga can be seen as "a happy-go-lucky dance" of Cuban origin and is mainly seen incorporated into 'Salsa Shines' or footwork. “Shines” can refer either to a performance by a group of solo men or women without a partner, or a pause in partnerwork for each dancer to show off before coming back together. Please do not ignore the body movement technique in the course as you would need to have a strong hold on it whenever you dance Pachanga. Happy Dancing!
